Junior Mechanical or Electrical Engineer

February 7, 2017

Perhaps a component has failed causing serious damage, or an accident has occurred and the damages are significant. They want to know why, and who is responsible. The evidence lies in front of you and the stakes are high. The answer matters. You can be a part of figuring it out.

Our firm is looking for a Mechanical or Electrical Forensic Engineer to be part of both our Property Loss and Accident Reconstruction Groups in Edmonton. The position would involve investigating equipment and product failures, vehicle accident reconstruction and reporting to insurance and legal clients.

Sintra Engineering is a forensic engineering firm serving insurance and legal clients in Western Canada with offices in Edmonton, Calgary and Vancouver. We aren’t your typical engineering firm and forensic engineering isn’t your typical engineering practice. How does a typical work day of investigating failures, analyzing evidence, and trying to figure out exactly what happened sound to you?

You:

  • Are a mature, well-organized, self-motivated professional.
  • Enjoy solving technical puzzles using a combination of observation, deductive reasoning, and engineering first principles.
  • Are capable of communicating your findings in clearly written reports.
  • Have a desire for new challenges and responsibility.
  • Have a bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering and registered in Alberta.
  • Have 1 to 4 years of working experience in an engineering related field.
  • Are familiar with commercial and residential building construction.
  • Are familiar with physics related to dynamics, kinematics, work, energy, momentum and restitution.
  • Have experience and familiarity with motor vehicles, motorcycles, trucks, and/or off-road vehicles.
  • Have drafting and/or surveying experience (considered an asset).
  • Are comfortable managing client relationships through the life of a file and have excellent communication skills.

The job would entail:

  • Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team investigating the technical aspects of insurance or legal related losses.
  • Determining the cause and origin of residential and commercial property and equipment failures and/or fires, and providing clarity to our clients.
  • Resolving the puzzles that surround vehicle accidents by conducting thorough evaluations of the scene, collected physical evidence and damage to vehicles involved.
  • Managing your own projects from start to finish including technical and financial aspects.

We offer:

  • A strong corporate culture based on collaboration, respect, effective communications, teamwork, and continuous learning.
  • An excellent compensation package that includes a competitive salary, minimum of three weeks holidays per year, extended medical, dental, life insurance, employer matching RRSP plan, and profit sharing.
  • The opportunity for you to have a dramatic effect on the performance of the company acting as a trusted advisor to our clients.

If the idea of a career in forensic engineering intrigues you, please forward a resume and cover letter to careers@sintraeng.com quoting competition# 0217-MEFE-SW-EDM in the subject line.
